Do I use AI?
My default is that I do all my work with only my own brain/notebook and pen/typing fingers. But I do keep up-to-date with copywriting practice, including ways of using AI at different project stages, and will work with you to fit your process.
Of course I use search engines for research and don’t actively avert my eyes from AI overviews before digging deeper into information sources. I do use AI tools to transcribe interviews, with permission of course, before checking through that they’ve captured things accurately.
But beyond this, I don’t have paid subscriptions to any AI tools* so I won’t use AI on any work I do with you unless:
it’s part of your process and you’d like me to
you’ve shared your AI usage policy with me and we’re both happy about the security of any information we’re going to feed in by way of prompt
we’ve agreed how we think it will help speed up our process or add something to our thinking.
When it comes to the final product that’s delivered to your audience, I want and expect it to be, at the very least, checked and refined by humans, if not entirely created by them.
* I have made this choice because I’m concerned that the scraping of human work used to create these tools makes them inherently unethical, and that the environmental impact of surging data use urgently needs to be assessed and regulated. I believe AI advances have huge potential for humanity if we’re careful, but I also believe the health of the planet and the wellbeing of humans should come before profit when it comes to AI development and promotion. So if we discuss together how, and if, we should use AI on our project, I hope these things will factor in our decision.
